@NervesofButter yeah Dvoretsky gets a lot of love on these forums. I don’t think I’ll ever be strong enough to read any of his books

In hopes that it might have some relevance to some of the concerns and interests expressed in this forum thread, I suggest to check out my first two comments at the end of my blog article...

Good Chess Books for Beginners and Beyond...

https://www.chess.com/blog/RussBell/good-chess-books-for-beginners-and-beyond

the first comment is regarding the book...

"The Six Power Moves of Chess" by William G. Karneges

The book is all about how to choose chess moves and develop plans of action, primarily in the middlegame.

The comments are located at the bottom of the web page, immediately following the main text of the article.

I agree with RussBell - some of the books being suggested are too advanced

Which seems to be an online thing.  I was reading a post once on another site where someone stated they are a USCF C player.  And they were looking for and endgame book.  If i remember correctly roughly 60+% of the posts were recommending Dvoretskys endgame manual.

This is/was precisely my point!  In fact, it's Exhibit 'A'.

Thank you.  I believe many, if not most, chess amateurs would find the Six Power Moves book helpful, particularly those below about Elo 1500 or so.
