Noj Dubrovnik II Chess Sets

Dear John, The pieces you sent to Brazil are wonderful. I recommend to any one interested! Very interesting indeed.

I love the original rooks but these look very interesting also. I'm looking forward to seeing the set w/ the finalised fatter rooks.

Maybe it's the forced perspective of the photo, but the rooks look almost too big for the rest of the pieces. I would consider an appropriately larger rook to be more "stout" than fat.

@ Lou: I think that's a fair point. If you increase the size of the rooks then the overall proportions will change as well, so perhaps some other pieces will need some changes. I've posted this elsewhere on this forum, but I think the "fat rook" noj might be going for is from the following set:

If this is the design you would want to achieve, I think a slightly wider bottom and a narrower top is in order. The above-pictured set is very nice, but definitely different from the Dubrovnik II from Noj, which is slightly more slender and a bit more elegant.

Actually, it's a bit difficult to say, because there seem to be many iterations with fatter rooks that all look slightly different. See also here, with perhaps slightly fatter pieces overall:

Rest of the pieces on the picture are Dubrovnik II  (red colour). All pieces will be different, not just rook, because this is totaly different version than Dubrovnik 1950 or Dubrovnik II.

Yes it is possible.

@ Nojchess: That makes sense. Please keep us updated on the final, new dubrovnik design you'll be introducing. I hope it'll be a hit.

If you enlarge the Noj Dubrovnik II rook, you almost have to enlarge the pawn as well, or else there would be a noticeable disparity between the rook and the pawn. In the first picture below is the stock Dubrovnik II set. In the second picture I have enlarged both the rook and the pawn to see what the set would look like.
