I own 3 sets of Dubrovnik in my inventory. One from Noj-Dubrovnik II red stain, HOS 1960-70's version I believe in Tasmanian Blackwood which has close similarities to the color staining Noj now uses in the crafting of their sets and an offering from Stauton Castle 1950s Vintage Reproduction Antiqued version. I was going to obtain the Minceta Dubrovnik in Brown Stain but since I have a dark brown wood grain Dubrovnik there is really no need for me to purchase another. I'm quite pleased with my lot.

@QtoQlevel3 - I thought about a lighter brown too. In the end, I decided to go with the standard stain (although I couldn’t give a reason why - I think I’d be happy with either). I hope you enjoy your next set once you get it!

I think you made a good choice; if you went with light brown then you would have to ask yourself why you wouldn't just go with walnut; I also think a nice deep/dark/rich brown stain just looks very nice.

Very nice!  I just ordered from Staunton Castle and was deciding between your Dubrovnik set and the disressed 1849 set.  I went for the 1849 but you are giving me seconds thoughts!  I think Staunton Castle has some really nice high quality sets and their Dubro is the only one I've seen other than NOJ that I would like to own.

@informaticacobach29 - Thank you. Oh, very cool! They certainly do!

@Spiritbro77 - Thank you!

Success! It looks like coffeechess has removed his comments. Thank you to all of the posters who backed me up! We don’t need their kind of behaviour on a forum like this.

The set is beautiful and shows the NOJ quality.

However, am I the only one who thinks "Man, I'm so over this Dubrovnik craze"?

grownupboy

I'm definitely not over the Dubrovnik design... But it's always entertaining to watch the trolls come out the second anyone mentions the name. happy.png

This is why I own a number of different designed sets.

When I tire of the Dubrovnik set(s) I might go to something different like the B H Wood set.  You know from HoS.

Then there’s the new HoS Drueke wood set, nice, very nice.

And then there’s my Noj GM Pavasovic set, excellent.

Of course there are a slew of Jaques retro’s.  One of my favorites is the Official Murphy set.

And there is the ubiquitous Fischer-Spassky set (clearance) from HoS.

And then there’s the Chess House Wood Ultimate set.

Yeah, I could go on with more.  Variety is the spice of life.

Agreed! I too love to switch off from my Tal to Romanian to Jaques Staunton to Dubrovnik sets several offerings from NOJ, HOS, CB, Chesshouse, Chess store, ACE, Staunton Castle, RCM, and Official Staunton and so on...I just come around full circle and enjoy them all over again. Never a dull moment in chess set variety and selection to enjoy with any of my opponents, family and good friends alike! IMHO.

Thank you Eyechess, MGT88, and forked_again for your kind words. Currently in negotiations with Noj to make my wishes become a reality.

What a lovely piece @AndKnightOfReyn.  Welcome to the club! From a fellow unweighted Minceta owner.

Just noticing the board in your pics.. Love that with the simple magogany border. Was that a custom thing or something CWW just sells (never saw it on his etsy...)

Damn, now I gotta get one of those too!

No offence to House of Staunton or Chess Bazaar, but there's not a scintilla of doubt that NOJ produces the replicas that are closest to all the Dubrovnik sets. This can easily be verified by looking at old photos of these sets from the 1950 Dubrovnik Olympiad, the 1959 Candidates tournament, photos of Fischer etc. No need to rise to the sh*tst*rr*rs' baits.

You are right, but Staunton Castle does a pretty good job; much better than others you mentioned.
