Are they really plastic? Must be a high quality plastic. Any idea how old they are?

Thanks Greg and I’Matt - definitely plastic and I assume - from prior comments in the Knubbel thread - that these are 70’s or ‘80’s … that said, it seems a very hard plastic (sorry if that is a stupid comment but I can’t think of a better word). The white pieces are an incredible creamy colour and translucent when held up to the light but the maroon pieces not translucent at all… they have a Bakelite-like quality/feel. It’s all a mystery … but a mystery that I’m glad to be investigating!
