Please recommend a reputable online retailer of chess pieces

House of Staunton

Btw, USCF is now just a middle man for House of Staunton.

You can also check Chess Bazaar. They are one of the most reasonable sellers among the all mentioned above.
You may also consider Etsy!

There are sooo many beautiful wooden pieces on all of those sites. Unfortunately I have to restrict myself to something inexpensive. I'm just tired of plastic pieces.
The wood board I have looks nice, but it doesn't have annotation numbers and letters along the sides, which I need. I returned to chess just a few years ago after a long absence only to find that the notation I grew up with has been replaced by algebraic. I have to count out the squares when I study a game, as in d2-d4...a, b, c, d...
I'm sure other "older" players returning to the game can sympathize.

The Ultimate Chess Pieces in wood will be available from American Chess Equipment soon, amchesseq.com.

Bought my recent wooden set and board from Regency Chess in UK. Very happy with both set and service. https://www.regencychess.co.uk/

Another retailer guilty of often ridiculos overcharging. Depends on the product though.
I thought Regency Chess in the UK was a good reliable company. Why do you say they are overcharging?
The concept of overcharging is really individual and subjective.
Some companies have higher prices than other companies. This is a fact and objective.
The consumer is the one to decide if any price is too high for what they receive.
There are more things to consider than the price for a single item. This begins with the quality of the product. Then there is the service provided by the company. And don’t forget the convenience factor of buying from someone you know and trust and might even be closer to you.
Of course this applies to many other things like violins, for instance. Wouldn’t you agree sound67?

I recently bought a magnetic wooden travel set from Rochester Chess Center - chesset.com. It was very affordable and the shipping was fast. It was a painless transaction and I would purchase from them again.
I wanted a wooden travel-sized set that would fit on a TV table, with annotation printed in large letters and numbers along the sides. Someone on this forum suggested them. They actually had three sets (different colors) that were on sale that met my requirements. I really love my new set! I will try to post a picture here.
Long winter evenings playing through the great games of the past, with a glass of wine sitting next to my chess board...what could be more relaxing?

I didnt criticize Chess Baron, I said I would stay away from them. Is that a violation of this forum? If so I apologize. He sells defective merchandise that is not as advertised. He advertises solid boards that are actually plywood covered with veneer, If youre curious rip the felt off of the bottom and look. I did that because I was curious about why the top of my month old "solid wood" board was cracking and splitting. He refused to take care of the problem. He should sell his merchandise as second hand, defective quality. He should price it as such, He has extremely poor customer service skills. Do what you want, its your money. I wouldnt base my decision on one review. Look him up. If you had a good experience then thats great.
I bought a set recently from a thrift store. The board is wood but the pieces are plastic. I would like to buy some wood pieces. The king is 2 and a half inches tall.
I've looked at some inexpensive pieces on Amazon and The Chess Store. Would anyone recommend other retailers? Someplace you can safely use a credit card. I'm no longer a USCF member so buying through them is out.
