After an awful lot of bureaucracy by the mail service, the board finally arrived. It is just as cheap as it looks, but the size is perfect for these gigantic pieces, so it looks proportional. I'm thinking about varnishing it to match the boxwood on the pieces.
Got my drueke board. 2.25" squares. Finally got a board to go with my dubrovnik 3.70"
Very nice, SMB! Is that one of the grandson's boards? How do you like it?
The Sinquefield Cup uses a special set made by House of Staunton that is DGT coil enabled. The London Chess Classic and the NorwayChess Tournament use DGT enabled german knight sets.
It's ok I found them! You can buy the chessmen as stardard and not DGT. They're a bit pricey though and only twenty sets have been made!

The 1849 by OS, tournament size and DGT enabled would be an ideal chess set for LCC. Perfect compliment for the location as well similarity to the 1851 event.

Other than the size, how do these pieces differ from the old Imperial Collector sets?
Chuck, they don't. HOs still sells the Imperial Collector in 3,"4," and 4.4" They only offer the 3.75" set as the "Sinquefield Cup" set, and charge a premium of about $1000 for it, since it costs $1695 and a regular 3.75 set like that would only bring $6-700. They limit it to 20 sets, and get twenty sets of signature cards from the contestants. I bet that the signatures don't cost them much, since the Cup makes the contestants sign promotional agreements. They do have to kick back a percentage of the profits to the Cup Organiazers, though.
Aha! Many thanks for enlightening me.
BCE 3.75" boxwood, ebonized tournament set on mtmwood.com 2.36" , 20 lbs walnut and maple board.
That set is very nice! Border looks sort of like Cocobolo.
And, visiting their website, it looks like they sell their boards cheap for luxury boards.
I wonder if they can do a custom 2.5" square board.

Maybe you can help me translate their prices to something I'm familiar with. I'd love to know how much I would have to scrounge up for one of those boards. There's one in particular that has me drooling.

It says "38000 p" for a price. Haven't got the foggiest what that is.
EDIT: I'm an idiot and literally just saw the english flag button. $575. Better than I expected it to be.
