Hi Frank ... it's a board made for a nr 5 Chavet Chess sets (France) produced  by a Spanish company ( http://www.rechapadosferrer.com ). Sq = 5 cm (a bit less then 2 inches) and the wood used is maple/inlay. I think they don't make them anylonger. Bought it in my home town Antwerp (Belgium) at a shop ( http://www.amusement.be/chessboardborderlight50mm-p-2006.html ). They still have some.

Hope I could help.

Thanks, bananamoon...

The board looks like the board used w/ a Chavet set at the 1990 world championship match in Lyon, so that makes sense. Looks very nice.

Good-looking sets, Bananamoon. Thanks for the great pictures and information.

Austrian Coffeehouse set. I like those. Is that some kind of rolling or folding board?

I would recommend to go to http://www.chessbazaar.com , an Indian company who makes great products.

Those do look great but sadly out of my price range if I'm reading correctly at $500. Oh well I'll enjoy the picture!

I would try eBay if you need a low price. If I remember right there are sellers directly from India there, also some of the stores list from time to time cheaper there than through their own sites.

If you're talking about the Omcorchess prices, Candidate, I believe that's 500 pesos, not dollars. 500 pesos is about 28 USD.

Ok, its website lists them as $400 ($500 for a board and bag) so I as assuming USD. I guess I'll ask them about it.

I emailed them so we'll see what their response is but the item is listed as "exhausted" so I'm not sure it'll even be available regardless of its price. I'll update here when I hear back.

I got an email from their rep who said they expect sets in later this month.

I've spent a fair bit of time in Mexico, and they use the "$" sign for pesos. So on a Mexican company's website, I'm pretty confident "$" means pesos and not dollars. That's no $400 US set or $500 US combo. But would you pay $28 US plus postage for that set? I would.
