Nice balcony and set up,but you need a nice set of astro binoculars to complete the festivities.

Hopefully, the rock & roll is good....Lots of junk music out there.

...As my wife told me. I need to buy something everyone can use....

So I have a pool now instead of a telescope.

I am lucky if I can order chess sets.

A universal "problem". Wives needs to learn to play Chess. wink

Wiener Melange polonaise? .. good one! How did you find it?

I will share an original mix, too. In order to match the size of this set I took my biggest board. Complete with three Vienna extra pawns--

I bought the C.B. Zagreb set a few years ago.....This was a time when I was having trouble communicating with them and had 4 sets with issues. It took me forever to get it all resolved, but C.B. can make a nice set.....Well,the episodes kinda' turned me off to C.B. and I gifted the set to my grandson and replaced it with a gorgeous Padauk/Boxwood set from The Chess Store.

I was a bit insecure about the C.B.'s ultimate quality....but....After maybe four years and being always out on a board and totally unprotected, with no humidity controls(very low in winter there)....To my surprise and great pleasure.....The set looks exactly like the day it was made.

C.B.....if they want to..... Can make a very fine set.

These plastic pieces - Philos Aurelius - are quite nice. Heavily weighted and large (king height 110 mm) and a traditional Staunton design. I particularly like the rooks, tall and slender but substantial. Beautifully finished they are as at home on a wooden board as on a roll up mat. Here in Sweden they cost around 65 USD.

My favourite travel set. Tournament sized unweighted (I want to travel light) but solid plastic pieces and a mouse pad style roll up mat. The only set I need...

Thanks for posting @hermanjohnell - it goes to show that there are some excellent plastic sets around. 👍

Classy sets Herman!

I could not resist posting this new combination. The vintage board was a bonus with some pieces I purchased some months back. The Chavet pieces seem to be a perfect match. Tonally, this is a beautiful combination - at least to my eyes - and the dings and dents on the board seem well suited to the vinatge pieces. Something is going right when my wife nods approvingly!

A worthy set for the GM that you're becoming Powder.wink

GM! Ha! Not a GM’s shadow …more an embarrassment - can’t even hold 1300 - that said, enjoying every game and slowly, slowly learning from my many, many mistakes!

Thanks! Yes there are a lot of fine plastic sets and while I prefer wood I´ll rather play with a nice plastic set than with a bad wooden one. Here´s one of my favourite (regardless of material) sets, a replica of a 19th century Jaques set.

A better angle...

But a nice set made of wood is hard to beat. This Dubrovnik is among my favourites.

What I´ve played most of my games with, the old Swedish Competition Model. Was universally used for competition play in Sweden until recently (when a more international/bland Staunton design took over). The pieces are felted but unweighted. There was an unfelted version and since the boards used were masonite it could get pretty loud, especially when playing blitz. Obviously it´s an acquired taste, but I still prefer these pieces.

DesperateKingWalk. The weigh in on the Dub set made by Mandeep are great. Super close. "Most" sets by "SOME" other companies are way off. He does great work.

I like that set @hermanjohnell.

It has similarities with the old (1960s) French set that I currently use in tournaments. This photo is of my opponent in a recent tournament and the set.

You are crazy like me. Using a nice wood chess set in tournament chess play. Most people in my area still use plastic for tournament play. And for good reasons. The Kids...

Here in Sweden the clubs have chess sets so one doesn´t have to bring ones own to tournament. The pieces I posted - Svenska Schackpjäser Tävlingsmodell - used to be standard during most of the 20th century. One can still buy them new with a masonite chess board.
