STAUNTON CASTLE UPDATE!

Posting here in the forum must have done the trick. I heard back from Mandeep who apologized for the delay and assured me the replacement knight will be sent out tomorrow! You know what they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Thanks to fellow forum members for all your support! (Fingers crossed)

I think it was my email to him. After reading your complaint and that of others, I decided to write to him, pointing out these posts and trying to convince him that if he wants to be in business for the long run he needs to pay better attention to customer service and quality. Hopefully, SC will be a seller we can count on.

Good news!

That remains to be seen. Hopefully, the replacement knight is on its way.

What a sad commentary on customer service.  For such a specialty item as chess sets, it is so imperative to have superlative customer service.  Good luck on your replacement.

Thanks.

@loubalch True story, your cracked Knight had me have a true knightmare this night, that one of my Knights started developing a huge crack! When I woke up I was so relieved.

Gambit,

Good one! I'm a sucker for puns, often punishing my friends without mercy. I figure if it's good enough for Shakespeare, who am I to quibble.

Well, it's about time to set aside a few hours to polish my largest chess set.

Well if he was reading this thread he didn't read my post.  I've been waiting longer than you, and still no response to my last email to him.

Forked,

I would have gladly waited my 'turn' if it would have expedited your replacements. It appears SB is more concerned with new sales (and even then they get distracted) than customer service and honoring their warranty commitments. They make some nice sets, but it isn't worth the hassle until they right the ship, which slowly sinking below the waves. I think the likelihood of getting a trouble-free set from SB is questionable at best. Hope you get things resolved quickly. Just keep sending those emails once a week. It apparently worked for me. Good luck.

I don't think he was reading the posts. As I mentioned above, I wrote a long email to him about the future of his business if he doesn't pay attention to customer service, communication and quality. I sent to him the url and post numbers for loubalch's and your complaint. He should be searching this forum regularly.

I just emailed Mandeep as well. I think this forum's emails to him alone must keep him pretty busy. LOL

On a lunch break from work and I just set up my GM Blitz Edition on a new board that I purchased a week or so back. I really like it. This is a 50cm board with 5cm squares. I wasn't intending to purchase a board but I walked past a general games shop and noticed this board. Nothing special and not expensive - just a nice usable board, I reckon.

PS @Loubalch - sorry to hear you are having a rough time getting a replacement.

Nice board!  And they way the border is done encourages you to focus on the game!

Thanks GPD - I took it to a friend's joint last night and enjoyed some food, a glass or two of wine and a game. He's an 1900 rated played - it wasn't like I was going to christen it with a win wink.png but it was nice to to be able to play OTB and he too commented on the board. Simple but attractive.

RorschachTest1

hi here is a post of my chess set:

unfortunately i was playing atomic chess on it a few too many times so there is not much left to see :C

The origin of this set is lost in the mists of time.

The rooks on this one are anemic.

harthacnut

I mentioned in another thread that I had had some cracked pieces from SC (both black rooks) and no response to my initial email a week ago. I sent a chaser, in slightly terser terms, and within two minutes Mandeep had replied saying that they had already actioned replacing the pieces and they should be on their way in a few days.

Which is great and is exactly what I wanted; it would just have been nice not to have to chase. It seems that communication is the problem more than anything. It would also be nice if the pieces didn't crack in the first place although I gather that is something of an occupational hazard with ebony at the best of times.

I'll post some photos here when the replacements come through.

Yes please keep us posted.  Saying they will take care of it and actually doing it are two different things.

Yes they are! It looks very wrong. The second most powerful piece on the board should look powerful!

Looks like the rooks are on a hunger strike! Apparently, all is not well in the kingdom.

Inherited from my grandfather a long time ago. I learned the basics of the game on it, about 30 years ago, but it hadn't seen much use since then, up until recently. Sadly, it's origins, much like the black queen, have been lost to time. (I intend to get a replacement queen made). It could be local (Bulgarian), Russian, or... anyone's guess, really. It has backgammon on the under/inside, but I never learned to play that.

It's a shame the sets can't talk.  Would it not be interesting to hear their history?  The personalities that played on them?  The lives they shared?
