Hi all, there are alot of chess sets for sale on etsy which are rosewood or ebony. I thought there were restrictions on these woods? Will there be issues if I order these sets?

If they say "in stock" I would think they are available.. but best to ask the company if you want to be sure!

a couple of points: the names for wood used in chess sets are a bit disconnected from the names for wood used in the real world, thats one thing to check, another is whether the restrictions apply to small manufactured items (they don't appear to in the case of of many types of rosewood since a 2019 CITES decision).  You should check your local import rules.

While the use of Brazilian rosewood is highly restricted, I believe that several other varieties (Indian, Madagascar, etc.) are still available. I know that the restrictions of the use of endangered woods has spurred a great deal of innovation is guitar building
