Review: ChessPlayerStore.com Felt Chessboard Storage Bag / Case

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while, and now that Jack (@JackUnge) is participating in the forum, I thought it best to proceed! This is for the felt chessboard storage bags sold via ChessPlayerStore.com

Full disclosure: this is an overwhelmingly positive review. Buy one or more of these, already!

A while back, I came across a beautiful JLP Drueke 21” square chessboard that ChessHouse nicely customized for me. However, I do move around a bit with my board, and needed protection for it. I scanned all of the normal bags sold by the vendors, but they tended to be cheap vinyl/fabric bags without much protection. I came across a brief mention here of a craftsman who made “felt bags for chessboards”, and once I checked the website, I was sold.

Jack was wonderful, some brief communication and measurement of my board, and he completed the bag within a few days. It is… superb! Well made, custom sized, not a single area that could scratch or damage a board, and the protection is perfect.

The outside of the case is modern and understated (Jack offers a logo as well, if desired, or further customization)

The flap reveals 4 UK made magnetic closures, which are solid and hold well. There is a leatherette strip at the top for durability and solidity.

The inside of the case shows the care taken in construction. The end is seamless, as it is made of a folded piece of felt, and the places where the magnets are attached have a leatherette backing to avoid any abrasion.

In summary, this is a wonderful product, well made, and fantastically suited for any quality chessboard. This so exceeds the construction and quality of those cheap chessboard cases that I cannot recommend it strongly enough! An easy 5/5 stars for me :)
