Romanian Chess Set Photo Review

Ever since I picked this high character national set from Goodknightmike, it's been one of my favorites.  It's regularly used in tournaments in Romania and Hungary...

I remember lusting after that set when it was on Ebay.  Glad it found a good home.  Those knights are really something special.

Very nice. The tops of the Bishops remind me of Dubrovnik Queens. Like the red. The Knights are "wicked" as they say in New Hampshire.

Thanks, Robert. Those knights pack an attitude. The set is displayed on a 2.375" Rechapados Ferrer board that I refinished and added a red accent border. The balance of the pictures depict the set on a 2.25" HOS Contemporary board. I think it works well with both.

Many of you have commented on the special knights. Here are some comparisions with my Spanish knights. They must be cousins...

You're welcome Chuck! Your postings have made my collecting experience that much more enjoyable. As you pointed out to me,  It appears that  Ifekali "has left the building", so your postings have also helped fill that void.

I love a set with some charicter. 

Both sets are awesome IMO. The Romanian Knights have a slight edge in agressive looks.

This set has been reviewed here before. Here is what my friend Arlindo had to say about it a few months ago:

"Well, I do not dislike this set,  he is an well-finished Staunton chessmen, polished and varnished,  king height 95 mm, felted, but...very wide, heavy in appearance, and above all with a Knight that is so cut in the wood (dozens) that is distratctiv. Please look closely at the Knight: It seems an ass, or anything resembling a dinosaur. 

"A Friend of mine brought me this set from Slovenia  and at  first look I  loved it, but after  I got tired , and stopped using it. I do not say it is not pretty for others guys, but I think it visually ugly! Eg: Dislikes  The little definition between the King and Queen and the end of the pieces' bases that looks like a tire, or a "gas tank". I Think that the Great Mikhail Chigorin love this Khights! Tastes!

Agreed about the sets, Kick. Not sure which looks more aggressive. They both look pretty pugnacious to me.
