Savano Chess pieces

Sort:
Whiggi

Today I received my order.
I currently have a Chessnut Pro, love the board, love the concept... the pieces though.. not so much.. SO I forked out for some higher quality pieces!

I was really drawn to the Modena set, but it's a bit out of my price range, luckily, I managed to find these for a very reasonable price.
I'll post detailed photos soon but here is my unboxing vid happy.png

Thank you @whiggi for taking the time to create the video and sharing this post. Nicely done and nice pawn catch btw. The pieces look beautiful. Congratulations!

Nice video. I read somewhere that customers can purchase the RFID chips for Chessnut. Are you going to do that for your new pieces?

@lighthouse yes, I have the chips ready to go and holes drilled into the pieces. Just need to cut some felt to match and I'll be good to attach them. Hopefully in the next day or 2 happy.png

That's great  Whiggi did you do the drilling of hole 's or order them with the holes already done ? As that set very filly would be scared to put in a vice to clamp them down while drilling holes .

Whiggi

I asked for the holes to be drilled before delivery. No way would I trust myself happy.png

@Whiggi - thanks for posting - it’s a lovely set - the carving and wood turning on some of these sets is amazing. It’s a fine set up to be playing with such lovely pieces on an e-board.👍

I havent had a chance to get home and take some pirtrait photos tear.png but here are some close ups I did get

I thought I'd be happy with the knights only. But first piece I got out I was pleasantly surprisedhappy.png

Very happy with the set (got it from indiachessart if anyone is wondering)

Nice set! The knights are very cool!

chessmaster_diamond

I loved the knights, too, but not the rest of the set. Fortunately, "antiquechesscrafts" let me order the knights with a different set, the "Wellington", and it worked out beautifully. Chessbazaar or RCM wouldn't have allowed the switch.

@michealbrock the Modena set had been on my list for a long time! but I stumbled across this at a great price of $280 USD on special.. at that price I simply could not resist and grabbed it happy.png

Now that I have this set the Modena no longer appeals to me, however perhaps one day I will change my mind... I do another set in mind which ill be looking for next though happy.png

GH_1977

That is a nice combo @diamond. I would however feel that the original posters pieces are more in sync with the outrageous knight.

To each his own.!

That's a beautiful set. Why is this set called as Savano. I have often found chess pieces design names to be arbitrary in using some random Latin word to describe a chess knight.

chessmaster_diamond

The sets that aren't replicas of specific historic models like Fischer, Tal, 1849 Staunton, St. George, etc, etc are indeed arbitrarily named. This is not limited to Indian sets!

I usually call all of these, including the Savano, or the Wellington, "fancy Staunton". wink.png
