Shera Series - Chess Bazaar

If anyone who may possibly be somewhat new to the chess hobby and wants only one nice set, this Shera set is absolutely perfect!.....Lacquered.....To add a touch of class and aid overall durability, imo.
@Powderdigit: Just ordered a Shera padauk set as a gift, based in large part on your review and the good customer service you received. Hope both the service and the quality hold up. Do you continue to be happy with the set?
Richard, On May 6, CB claims that they sent me my replacements (a "parcel"). They have not arrived. CB no longer answers my Emails. I have bought FOUR chess sets and TWO storage coffers from CB. I have had complete satisfaction with CB,s quality and customer service in the past. I have 2 cracked and 2 defective pieces that should be covered by CB,s warrenty. I cannot understand why CB,s customer service has failled to provide the service that they gave me in the past. I can no longer reccomend Cb, at least until their customer service improves and resolves my problem. Edward Dubin
I think you have to understand that India is undergoing a severe crisis, due to Covid.
It has to impact C.B. and Powderdigit was gracious enough to allow C.B. to do the replacement set correctly,by allowing them time.
I've had issues with C.B in the past(bought 12 sets and 2 boards, with one nice coffer) but their hearts were always in the right place and they did "ultimately" correct their issues.
Powderdigit got what he deserved...A stunning set!

Hi @RichardHG, as with @Ataraxic1 - I really hope all goes well with your purchase. @zimbabwaeed1989 (Edward, I hope your issues are resolved soon.) It is frustrating to hear of your issues as I was hoping the uncertain and fluctuating levels of service from many suppliers was behind us. Alas, it seems not.)
Richard - you asked if I continue to be happy and the answer is yes. While taking a break from work today, here is a quick update with some more photos that I took when I saw your post - off my iPhone with the pieces in-situ proudly on my dining table - the light is not great but it shows that I continue to enjoy looking (and often setting the pieces to my online games) daily.
I really do hope everyone gets what they are looking for. As this thread clearly shows - it took me a while for me to get there ... but it worked out in the end.
magictwanger---I have been waiting for my replacements since May 6, 2021! That is 3 @ months ago. I bought my 4th CB set in June, 2021 and it arrived 6 days later. Cb refuses to answer my questions-- Is the "parcel" lost? Is it insured? Can you trace it? I had a long series of emails with Cb going back to my first CB chess set. They always replied within a few days. Until last month. ?virus or not, CB seems to be providing customer service, and answering other customers email.
@ZIMBABWAEED1989 thanks for letting me know about your difficulties. I would like to think that this will be no more than delay and frustration, rather than a failure to honor their warranty. I would be upset. On the other hand, in light of Covid and the reputation of India Post, perhaps the delay can be explained. At some point, they should send another set of replacements. Usually pointing a vendor to complaints by a purchaser on this website results in the vendor becoming responsive. You might want to let them know about your posts.
@Powderdigit. Thanks so much for posting those photos and your expression of continued pleasure on owning the pieces. The set will be a gift to my new son-in-law. I had originally bought for him another set but after looking at your post and thinking about which of my sets he has particularly liked, I decided to order the Shera set (which is similar to the set of mine he especially likes) for him. But I was having second thoughts. Your post has caused me to feel more confidant that I made the right decision.

As I have noted all along - I hope to provide an objective account based on what I have experienced - hence the transparency of issues when I had the lacquer problem and delay.
I’m with you too - I hope the team at CB see threads like this as a chance to address issues and continually improve. And I hope threads like these help people make informed decisions too -
as you have.
Fingers crossed all around!
….
On an related aside - for me, there’s something both scary and wonderful about the anticipation of a new set … I recently pulled the trigger on a set out of Germany … and the anticipation of its arrival is exciting with a spoonful of nerves! Probably still weeks away but I wait with baited breath.

@ZIMBABWAEED1989 Like @MagicTwanger, I had a good experience with CB. It was not perfect. They somewhat gave me a bit of a runaround for replacement pieces, but ultimately they agreed to resolve my issue after few days. What you're going through just stinks. I would be irate after 3 months. Hopefully, CB will resolve the situation with you soon.
My son-in-law just opened the Shera set I ordered as a gift for him. It is not lacquered. Excellent quality and no cracks or other problems. I took a photo of a few pieces with my 3-year old iPhone.
Thanks to @Powderdigit for his review.
