Storing and Traveling Wooden Chess Pieces

Hello all. I own a wooden HOS chess set and love it very much however getting it to tournaments or school and back is rather worrisome. The problem is, is that the bags that have the individual holders for the chess pieces are rather expensive

And so I was wondering if it was safe to carry the wooden pieces in a normal chess bag without worrying about them beinng chipped to hell and back?

If they are packed loose you would certainly risk some damage. Mine are in drawstring bags or zippered bags, pretty tight, and I haven't had any issues.

You could wrap each piece in tissue paper. That works well for packing a stone set I have.
