Noblestone, excellent research.  Both books need to be read.  Remember these books were not for modern tournament players, but for beginners to have a foundation of the game.  Everyone cannot be a tournament player, but everyone can play and enjoy chess.

While you can create your own book,  I suggest getting one of the free apps and buying their books.  There are many excellent products out there that can do many things.  Try each one out.  See which one does what you want.  It is amazing what they can do.  Try, see for yourself.

Thanks kramopolis, never knew such an app existed. Might give it a try after a get through a couple other books I have started.

"The Game of Chess" by Dr. Tarrasch is one of the truly great books on chess. Unfortunately much of it is dated. But several of the Tarrasch games are pure art. He was several times a challenger for the world title against E. Lasker, but failed each time. But so did many others for 27 years! For a more up-to-date book, you might try Mihai Suba's "Dynamic Chess Strategy". It is a thin paperback full of useful information. Unlike Nimzovich, the notes are easy to follow. For fun, you might also try Reti's "Masters of the Chessboard", although I haven't seen an algebraic verson of it.
