I like that board...Can I ask where you got it?

martinbchess

I’m presuming the cost of that set is astronomical.

Joel Will custom_woodcreations@yahoo.com. This is the guy who makes the luxury boards for HOS.

You can tell him that Kim referred you.

Generally speaking, his figural sets in wood start around $2,000-2,500 and go up with more complex designs. For example, the Ballet set will be much more because the carving is much more complex. Staunton is a bit cheaper (I think around $1,500). If you want some extras like a special finish, it's extra. If you want a new design, it's extra (I assume a lot extra).

Sometimes you can get bargains on auctions, but you really need to be lucky.

Mammoth ivory sets are around 4-5 times more expensive.

For the second morning in a row …. thank you @kimk10 ! Staggeringly good sets.
Noting too the classic glass display cases behind the pieces in these photos - you have impeccable taste, a great eye for detail and a wonderful collection. Well done on being able to create such a collection and indeed, for allowing us to see a glimpse. Great stuff - on a whole new level of quality for me. 👍

I so appreciate people who are true collectors. My dad was that way and before he passed,he donated to the Smithsonian Museum.....I think it was part of his Charles Lindberg Music Sheet collection, but it could have been his Apollo stuff,or maybe his 30,000 Tea Tags,or Coins & stamps.

Like so many folks here.....He was a "CLASSIC"!

It is very tall so visible enough.. I had to put both his sets on the same shelf.

There's just too much goodness displayed on those shelves in that pic. You win the Golden Pawn of Awesomeness Trophy of the Day. Thanks for sharing!

Fabulous is obviously an understatement......How do you handle the humidity issue?

I have a second bedroom, which is now exclusively my chess/hobby room and run a humidifier in cold weather.....A pain in tne tush, but works great.

@Kimk10 Amazing room and display. Man I remember there was a thread awhile back where you asked @EfimLG47 about the ins and outs of collecting. Did your collection start before that or after that thread?

I had few sets before, but most of the collection started after. And I'm really grateful to @EfimLG47 for all his advice and guidance. A truly knowledgeable collector and a real gentleman!

At this point I don't, but I probably should.

Well, whatever he said to you must have been some really good advice. Your collection looks awesome.

It's mirrored. Which I'm not sure was the right decision. Too many reflections.

Just wanted to add that owning a collection of almost anything gives wonderful memories!

Memories of when you got the particular item, whether a chess set or something else. Each item will reignite something to remember about when it was gotten.....Family times, business, overall experiences during that era.

That is one aspect of building a nice collection.-happy.png

I love that set the rooks are so satisfying to look at

First off stunning collection.  In the bottom row I noticed you have your pieces on a tiered pedestal. May I ask where you got it?
