Nice looking pieces.
The Mikhail Tal Soviet Tournament Chess Set by EraRetro on Etsy

It arrived today Very nice set. But I will need a larger board. Too crowded for my 2 inch squares board.

I agree that it's a bit crowded but the colour combination with that board is fantastic.
Looking at the style of the pieces it seems this set is made in India and then sold through European agents. It is an improvement on Chessbazaar Tal’s set but still Noj set is closer to the original one.
Also the rooks are not made correctly specially their turrets. The pawns also need to be improved and the knight as well. Comparison with Noj set brings out more differences.

Thanks guys for your kind comments on the set and my board Kate and her husband have done a great job. Kate was extremely helpful answering my questions .
You're welcome Greg! I hope you get a lot of pleasure from your set......Mine is expected within the next day or so.I already have a couple of boards that should be a good match........Btw,I chose this over the NOJ set because I thought it was the better looking set.
I appreciate that the NOj set is accurate to the nines, but I prefer this one on an aesthetic level.....Thanks to Jorge for starting this thread and getting me interested in this set.He basically spoon fed me on all the specifics and how to go about ordering it.
You guys have no idea what a nice guy he is and that's an understatement!
I also found Kate to be supremely professional.
Best wishes,
Mark
Apologies to Mike! I realize he started this thread.Jorge began a different one,on the same set......Both are first rate fellows!

I have already added the information.
Stauntonmaster, you did the same thing all the time aith your last account. Please post photos to support your opinion, as @Fer8799 requested, or go away.

The only board option I can source at a price that suits my budget is a 60cm board with 2.4 inch squares. Comments here and other threads suggest this should be ok for my set. The board is wood and has black and white squares with the white squares being slighty off white. The board is an online purchase so I cannot test with my pieces beforehand. Do you folks think the black and white squares will work ok with the set? See my set above. The board in the photo has 2 inch squares.

I love these, when I was a kid, these handmade wooden sets were all over the place, how I do miss them.

Thanks liml. Sizing looks good. Just a question of whether a black and white square combination will work. Not as nice as the brown and white square combinations but should be ok.

I played through a Mikhail Tal game with the set on my 2 inch square board in the photos above and it was passable in terms of space but squares of 2.375 to 2.5 inch would be much better.
I received my set three days ago and it is simply a beautiful and unique chess set.I could care less about it not having period correct exactitude! It is a fabulous looking chess set and the folks at Era Retro are true caring professionals. The set has a look of Old World aesthetics...Not much more to add other than WOW!
I'll know in about a month.-
