Here's some pics for all you Dubrovniks. Its the Noj Ltd 91 mm (approx 3.6") 1950 Walnut & Maple Dubrovnik Set, the name was changed a few years ago to Dubrovnik II when Noj came out with a 1950 Dubrovnik Olympiad Set.

I agree. I should mention, I got my HoS Dubrovnik set from eBay. Periodically, HoS will offer the Dubrovnik sets for sale with a "Make an Offer" option. They'll almost always accept a 75% bid. Got mine for $150, plus shipping.

Well, it sure has been awhile since last posting. Very nice photos Mike. This tread caught my attention, being that as far as I know, you and I are the only ones I know of that have the original Dubrovnik set with the older 1950 box label before they were known as Dubrovnik II's. Thanks for pointing that out to the members that some of the original Dubrovnik II's were sold as the NOJ 1950's at that time before Dubrovnik II basically existed. Makes me wonder how many sets of these are actually owned or were produced. Simply the best repro of Mr. Fischer's "personally owned" fav set so sadly lost or stolen as the story goes... Noticed though your "1950" label is a bit differ but still 1950's...

I ordered my Hoj 1950 last night Laughing. This video is interesting. Also check out the Tal v. Gligoric one on the same page. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbMhDaEKW6Y

Congrats Ron on your Noj 1950 Dubrovnik purchase. Did you get an estimate of when you would get your set?  Please post pics when you get your set

I think I will be unwelcome in this post. But I have to bring it out that the knight in this set really looks ugly to me.

Maybe NOJ has the best reproduction and is the best replica. But I don't care how much the similarities are, I just care if the set looks beautiful or not.

And I have to say the collar design of pawns are also very uncomfortable. I have a HOS 2.875 Zagreb, featuring the same pawn collar design, which stick out far more extending out of the head, at the same time with the head being quite small in diameter. I played last night with this set, finding the pawns really a pain to hold.

Welcome back, D2. I have a Dubro II from before it was called the Dubro II, but because it's the 4.0" version, the NOJ certificate doesn't designate it as a 1950. I do own the first actual 1950 Dubro NOJ produced.

Thanks for the welcome backs Mike & Chuck. Wonder if other forum members have the oldies but goodies other than us three. Been doing some catch up reading and you guys can sure post some great photos, that's for sure. Also just noticed that the "box sizes" seem to differ as well. Mine is elonggated where some look more square. Guess it depends on the year the sets were produced earlier on. I think at one time there also was a carver change back when, I seem to recall, but not sure on that one ?

Thanks for your opinion Rickyro, we all have different tastes regarding chess sets, which makes our hobby of collecting sets so interesting.

Chuck, thanks for the gorgeous pics of your Dubrovnik (now Dubrovnik II) 4" red stain Noj set and the 1950 Olympiad set.  Theses sets belong in a museum! I love the Dubrovnik II set so much is why I have both the 91mm & 4" versions  in my collection.
