Just looking to see if anybody has any info on this set, or has even seen it before. I picked it up at an antique mall a couple days ago, and it's definitely differen't. It looks as if the pieces are hand painted but are machine carved out of wood as they all have the same distinct carvings that I doubt a person could replicate by hand. Each piece is also stamped 'Italy' at least somewhere on it (all of the white pieces are on the bottom of the base. Pictures below. Thanks!

I like it. How tall is the king?

From the base to the tip of the crown, the king stands just a hair under 3 inches.

They do look a bit familiar but I can't say from where. There are a lot of carvers in the Val Gardena in Italy who create chess sets with machine carving and hand carved details, and the choice of figures is often similar to what you have there, but the style of carving is usually sharper and smoother; I haven't seen one stylzed quite like yours before if that's what you've got there.

I have a nearly identical set that a relative picked up at a flea market several years ago.  Did you ever get more information about yours?
