What manufacturer from Amritsar, India

    Hi,

After some time, and after reading some opinions, I decided to order with Ganesh, and I have to say that my experience is positive.

I ordered two chessmen, tree boards and several boxes.

Regarding the pieces, they have a good quality carving and the wood were also fine.
Packing was also good, and all of them arrive in good condition and I only asked for a replacement of two pawns for back pieces, that were carved fine, but the color was not as dark as all other in chessmen. They sent me a replacement sent by ordinary mail with tracking (thing that I can't say about another well known high quality carver, i will write about him in the future if the problem is not solved). They arrived fine, and were perfect. Ganesh also told me that sometimes is difficult to match exactly the color, but in my case, was fine.

It is true that the photographs (and this is IMPORTANT THING) in the website could be is some cases not exactly to the pieces carved. They do it with these design, but it could not be as expected.
Although this happens even in best shops due to it also depends on the artisan, I suggest to ask them for a photograph specially of the knights of those pieces you want to order. They will send it to you although it can take some time. With this info you can take you decision.

I ordered also some boards, and all of them fulfil my expectations, very happy with them. Good quality, for a good price. Probably here is where they are better in comparison with any other shop.

Regarding the boxes, I ordered the cheapest ones, because I don't mind the boxes but need a place where to store the pieces properly.
Again a good quality for the price, and happy with them, although nothing special (they were the most economic option!)

Final comments, you have to take into account that you have to pay customs when the package arrives your country, they are clear with it. The cost would depend on the taxes of you country.

In my opinion they are a very good option for retail shops, since prices are very competitive and quality is very good for high/medium, medium or low carving difficulty pieces.
I recommend them without any doubt at least you want a special and difficult carving knight.

Hope it helps, I can send photographs if needed. the chessmen are a dubrovnik II and the Valencia (in HOS), in both cases, I think the carving equal quality to HOS ones.
I also asked him a photograph about the Benevento knigh (HOS), and I have to say that in this case the quality, for me, was not good enough.
Regarding the boards, I can't believe the quality can be significatly better in other providers.

I have ordered quite a few(maybe 10) sets from Chessbazaar in the last 6 months.A couple of boards too.A week and a half ago I got the 19th Century Austrian set, which had 7 damaged pieces.I sent an e-mail to them and because of the damage.

I checked my other pieces, from my other CB sets, since they had not been used much....Just to see if they had developed any issues......Two of my 1849 Staunton pieces had,for no apparent reason developed cracks and one pawn, from the "stunning" Latvian set was now cracking.I sent off another E-mail to Chessbazaar to let them know this....Btw,I am very well versed on proper humidity,as I collect acoustic guitars and my pieces are in a well controlled room......To be honest,I'm a bit concerned,as I've not heard a peep from CB.I'm hoping that within the next couple of weeks I get a package from them.

If my damaged pieces are replaced with no problems I'll be impressed with CB....Got my fingers crossed.

@Fer8799, Yes, please post photographs of what you received. Inquiring minds want to know. Many people on this thread have been burned by Ganesh Chess, so we would LOVE to see a couple of sets that actually live up to their billing. With one exception, none of the people who have

had a "positive" experience with Ganesh has followed through with pictures. It makes us wonder whether they are real or shills for Ganesh. Please, post pictures!

Hi Rcmacmillan, sorry but I haven't seen you request.

In any case, I'm still happy with the pieces, but I I check boards just week and I've seen that my two bigger boards have some cracks, you can check here the photos:

I will ask Ganesh about this problem, and will post here his answer too.

I will upload when I have some time, sorry.

@Fer8799, No need to post your pictures here since the link you've given works well. It looks like you've gotten lucky; the pieces look pretty good -- especially the set with Blackburne style knights. It looks like there are a couple of dings on the Dubrovnik pieces. I would not have been happy with those boards, though -- especially the cracks where it was obviously a manufacturing error rather than wood expansion/contraction.

What you posted is OK, but I still wouldn't risk sending my money to Ganesh again. Those boards should never have been sent out in the first place.

Hi @rcmacmillan, the boards arrived fine, the cracks have appared later. I realized last week. In any case, I think boards have to be done ti support expansion/contractions. i Will así ganesh about It, because happened in two of three boards...
