Hi lofina, I got this chess table at a local antique furniture store over 10 years ago. Maker is unknown. Squares are 2.5".

They seem nice lofina, but I really don't know anything about these type tables.

Carl, what set is that and is it a set with few cracks over the years if kept under proper humidity?

Hey Mike

its our BC&E set....to be fair Mike we've only really had limited issues with cracking pieces, predominantly in the launch of our 3;5 inch Library set there were issues, however that batch has long gone and the current antique sets have the new technique. ..... moving forwards all our sets with antique are/ will be much less problematic. It would be a total falsehood to claim pieces will never crack, I'm here telling you all that nature is unpredictable, humidity, temp flux etc etc..you all know the score better than me!  BUT there are some companies out there claiming their pieces will never crack etc, well to coyne a phrase from a prominent US chess dealer .....that's rank hyperbole!  what i promise is fantastic customer service ,as in after sales!!

Boveda does make packs that hold the humidity between 44 to 55 I believe, but they are not cheap. Yes they subtract and add humidity accordingly. I have found those air-tite Plano plastic boxes to be very good.

Carl, this set has a WINGSPAN of the first magnitude! A gorgeous set indeed, I love those unique slender pieces.  I added this B&C Company reproduction  to my ever growing OS want list. Many thanks for offering so many fabulous reproduction sets.

We can't have a thread on Wide Base pieces without a few pics from this Soviet set. It's from the 1960s and has been placed on a Drueke board with 1.75 inch squares to accentuate those fat bottoms. Since the Kings stand just over 3 inches and the stems and heads of the pieces rather narrow, the set works well on this board without seeming crowded.

Thanks.

Wow Up, that is a great set. Love the look of it.
