I bought Play Winning Chess about twenty years ago and it was a real help. The Yassar Seirawan book, that is.

start with play winning chess - then go to tactics and strategy - the last 4 can be tackled at leisure

Start with "Winning Chess" as whiskeytown says. It is a good series of books.

Update:

Sorry for Necro my posts onstead of making a new one.

I got "Play Winning Chess" and "Winning Chess tactics" a couple of weeks ago, "Play winning Chess" is quite useful for my level of play, and i think i'm getting a lot from it, i haven't started "Winning Tactics" yet though.

However i think i'm lacking skills on the endgame because i've lost several "won" matches just because i didn't know what to do when in advantage, i've made my homework and it seems most regarded book on the topic are:

Pandolfini's End game course and  "silman's complete endgame course", i wonder if "Winning Chess Endings" is related to endgame or should i stick with Silman's or Pandolfini's book.

Play Winning Chess was a good book, kind of basic. The others in the series build upon it. I would take care with Pandolfini's Endgame Book, I've found several errors in that one. Silman's Endgame Course is good. The beauty in it is that you can learn all the material for the level you are at, shelf it, and go back to it, either for a refresher later, or when you reach a new "level." The material is divided into sections that relate to what Silman thinks you need to know at certain ratings.
