Your thoughts on modern Jaques London chess sets.

Does anybody own a modern Jaques set? They seem extremely pricey. Are they crafted in the U.K. or India? Are they made of African ebony? Maybe I’m missing something but I can’t figure out why they are so expensive. Here is one of their top of the line sets:

£5000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judging by that price, I don't think they can be boxwood and ebony. I suspect the Black pieces are made from Dragon-glass and the White pieces from Unicorn-horn

^  All there stuff seems high priced.

I think they're overpriced. The King is too tall at 4.4 inches. It would make a beautiful display but I would play on something else. You could set it up in the salon to impress your dinner guests before "going in." No aperitives on the board please!

Would be good to see more images of the set, but from the one image it does look a cut above the run of the mill Copies appearing, the wood is probably a higher grade and look at the sharpness of the Queens coronet , something you don’t see apart from the originals, but saying all that at £5k I would be looking at an original set ♟
