Sorry guys.  I'll make some flash cards so I can study up on the differences between a forum and a blog.

"not to poop on your picnic but could've gotten the set cheaper..." sounds more like the tone of someone trying to prove a point rather than trying to be helpful.

That's why I pushed back on that comment.  Obviously I understand how forums work.  But c'mon, if you're intending to be helpful, at least be somewhat friendly about it.

In real life conversation, this would be chalked up to poor uncouth social skills. Online, it's par for the course unfortunately.

Joe: Hey Frank, is that a new TV you got there?

Frank: Yeah. It's awesome. The picture is stunning.

Joe: Hate to poop on your picnic but you could've saved 20% off from this store in NJ. Hey I gotta go. Nice talking to you. happy.png

Frank: ...

Exactly.  Usually helpful intentions go hand in hand with friendliness.  Snarky tone claiming to be helpful is a tough sell.

KnightsForkCafe, DrChespain and the ubiquitous sound67 are being too hard on this guy.

He bought the set.

He really liked it.

He started a topic and posted pictures of that set.  That’s exactly what this forum is all about.

Remember that a lower price on a different made set of similar design does not mean it is of the same quality.

Cheaper does not mean just as good or better.

This is a nice set.  Let it stand at that, sheesh.

I think that both of the parts have a point, I personally don't see anything offensive suggesting another site but I can understand that could pass as rude for our friend Ebowie. But nothing takes you away that It Is a wonderful set sir, my congratulations.

Very nice set!
It is important that the customer is satisfied. Maybe ACE is more expensive because it has better quality control.

Where?

I have been a bit confused by the exchange here. I just took up chess again (not that I ever played it much) and found my old Drueke plastic weighted set, which I like. I am just learning about nicer wood sets. I had understood from so many posts on this forum that prices can vary dramatically for the same style set based on a number of factors, including wood, weight, size, workmanship and other factors. For example, see Different Dubrovnik Sets My first purchase was a Zagreb clearance rosewood set from CB, which is quite nice. Before I purchased it, I looked at many other Zagreb sets; some I liked and some I didn't. Although some may have been made by the same manufacturer, as a group, the individual sets were not fungible.

Sort of a funny update. It makes this thread somewhat moot. I’m realizing just now that the ebonized set is out of stock at wholesale chess. I looked out of curiosity.

I'm wondering the same thing. I don't see anything.

I was friendly. I could have said hey dumb a$$ you could have gotten it cheaper somewhere else. Sorry that you feel the way that you do. I get that you have an emotional attachment to your purchase. However don't get ripped off in the future is my point to you and to others. That is being helpful.

They will restock it. Besides that, their Rosewood offering is even cheaper. Rosewood options tend to be more pricey than Ebonized Boxwood.

Dude it's the same set! I am not being hard on the OP. Just calling out BS for him getting ripped off. Here's my set from wholesale chess. Show me how his is better than mine.

The only difference is mine is Sheesham and not Ebonized Boxwood but that is a minor difference. Not a better or worst quality issue.

I wanted ebonized.

I don’t feel ripped off. I’m pleased with my purchase.

Again, a poor choice of words to rationalize your statement... I’m pretty sure EBowie doesn’t believe or feel like he was “ripped off”

If I may use an analogy....

Blue color jeans are not the same as Black color jeans. If someone wants blue, it's pointless to point them to black. Aside from the color — the cut and style of jeans may seem very similar, but are they the same? Many people will adamantly say they are exactly the same. Jeans are jeans. But are jeans from Old Navy the same as jeans from Uniqlo? No they are not. Is one "better" than the other? That's subjective.

And in the end, you know what? Sometimes people just rather spend their money with a particular retailer instead of another retailer. If given the choice, I rather spend my money at a local hardware store than HomeDepot. For me, it's not all about cheapest rock-bottom Walmart price. I'm perfectly fine with it. Many other people are fine with it as well. No need to make a spectacle.

Dude, it is the same set design, but not necessarily the same set.

There are a lot of this style sets on the market.

Let’s get this straight.

He finds a set he likes.  After searching and shopping he sees a lot of these sets and decides on this one.  He buys it and is very happy with the product and service.  He posts pictures of this set here and tells how happy he is.

You find a set that is less expensive and must rain on his parade by telling him he could have had for less.
Of course the set you mention is not available to buy as it is out of stock.

The main and underlying theme of your posts here are about getting the cheapest price, no matter what.  Quality differences in product do not matter according to you.

You really need to get a life.

It’s Saturday morning.  That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it😊

...before my next patient,...

The guy already has the set.  This Dude comes on and says he could have had the same set for cheaper.  Oh yeah, this cheaper set can’t be bought anyway.  Never mind...
