Best format for getting coaching?

Hi - considering getting a coach so my question is to those students who have had good/bad coaching experience.

What format works best? Skype, FaceTime, MS Teams, using the Chess.com classroom feature, or a combination of these?

Typically for myself I use Zoom, Google Meets and even Discord. All works perfectly fine and depending on the bandwidth necessary its more of a matter of preference from my experience. So as long as screen sharing and voice channel is available, typically the lesson would be all set already.

Hey Taylors chess - thank you.....wasn't sure if the format mattered much.  Sounds like it's probably not much of an issue.  Then, do you play on Chess.com or Lichess or something like that?

as a coach and student, i like to use discord but all the platforms work perfectly fine. I wouldnt base a good coaching expirience by the platform used but how good the coach is, and how well you connect with them.

Chess.com classroom has good potential but I’ve been experiencing to many glitches and issues with it with multiple players than I’ve reverted to primarily using Lichess studies which while much more stable presently, also offer to keep the lesson materials for future reference and use. Both Lichess studies and Chess.com classrooms have built in audio capabilities, Chess.com also has built in video capabilities as well.

In my lessons I mostly use Zoom or Google Meet and share my screen with Chessbase 14 on it.

No probs and from what I'm getting (if I understood your question correctly) is the format is not really important. Personally I see it as a medium of communication so its not a huge issue so as long the session can be done. I usually do a combination of both on my end, using chess.com and Lichess, even my own local Chessbase which I'd share from my screen.

From my own experience, Lichess's studies are more reliable and stable than chess.com 's classroom and personally I like the studies more too since its easy to update, give work on and just share to. I'd also provide other reading material from chess sites/updates for your general knowledge and understanding just to "be in the know" as well as for useful reference.
