Lesson 8

It would be helpful if you told us which Lesson 8 you are referring to.  Assuming it is from the Chess Mentor series, which course does this come from?  Given this, I'd be glad to help...

thank you for the quick response, the lesson 8 number is WFK008.

Since going through the lessons, this lesson in particular has helped clarify the reason for a sacrafice of a valuable piece in order to achieve the goal of a checkmate.

I would like to see a checkmate to this lesson.  I understand the direction, but I am still unable to visualize the checkmate.

There is some confusion.  Lesson WFK008 is from Chess Mentor Course "Champion Tactics with GM Wolff - In Between Moves."  Is this the lesson you are referring to?  The objective for this lesson is NOT to checkmate, but rather to win a pawn.  By a series of in-between moves (and not just immediately taking back the obvious piece), white is able to come out a pawn ahead.  We often seek tactics that win us material which will make the possibility of a later checkmate more likely, though certainly not guaranteed.  This is one such example.

Is this helpful ?

Thank you, Jeffrey, for clarifying the lesson.  Everything was flowing so smoothly in this lesson and I guess my eagerness to see how the win of a pawn could bring about a checkmate that I lost the point of the lesson.
