Here's a list of things I recommend you do

  1. Play long games and analyze your games with an engine. I recommend you play on Lichess because they do this for free without paying for it and play for 15min+
  2. Play solid openings. For example: Queen's Gambit, Italian, French Defense, Ruy Lopez, etc. Even though the London is a solid opening, you will not improve as a player by playing the same 8 moves against everything. The links are to my studies on those openings which I recommend you play but you aren't required. If you want some suggestions, take the Chess Personality Test
  3. Watch a lot of educational chess videos. You could watch the chess.com videos which some are good but require money or go on Youtube. I recommend Chess Geek, Chess Vibes, Chess Coach Andras, and GingerGM to name a few
  4. Do puzzles and tactics everyday. This will help you improve the most. However, it is recommended you do puzzles from a book rather than online generated because they are human approved. If you go to Folkscanomy on Archive.org, you will find a lot of tactics books which may be old but they are very good like Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess. I like the Woodpecker Method but it costs money and you may not be ready for it
  5. Enjoy the process. Sure you will lose a lot of games but if you commit yourself to get better, eventually, you will improve after a while. I lost 150 points at one point but I reassessed myself and after a little break, I was able to beat my best rating.
