Pricing Question (Result Based Pricing)

This is just a pricing question.

One-off payment, how much you would pay for an increase of your Elo. (Timeframe 12 months)

By 100, 200, 300, and 400.

Nothing lol. Higher Elo gives me no money, respect or anything, only stronger opponents which would tilt me more. So why should i pay money for tilt?

It depends.

A 200 point increase from 1000 to 1200 is obviously not as valuable as a 200 point increase from 2000 to 2200.

I’d say the former is worth $100 while the latter is worth $1000.

I’d probably pay $500 to get from 1850 to 2050, if a coach said “let me work with you until X and you can pay me the lump sum once achieved” for example.

That is like buying a map and only paying if you reach your destination...
No reasonable coach will enter into no cure, no pay, as it usually results in no cure and no pay.
Getting stronger and thus achieving a higher rating is no matter of money, it is a matter of time and effort. There are so many free resources available now, that you can get to any strength without spending any money.

If somebody is too lazy, then the coach cannot change that, he cannot whip.

Lazy student = no improvement
$3000 means 30 h at 100 $/h. That is probably not enough to gain +200 rating.
However, a 20$ book by a top grandmaster means 200 h of top tuition and that gives more than +200 rating

1) If you study with a coach it will all look easy, you learn more alone with a book and 2 chess sets. If the coach explains and you nod and say yes, then you learn nothing. Alone with a book you can ask yourself dumb questions about why and resolve them yourself, that is learning. Sure it is hard work, but a coach cannot relieve you from hard work.
2) Books only help. Some books certainly give +200. Some books are worthless. There is more to GM than bookish knowledge: physical fitness, nerves, ... If you aspire 2300 then your coach or book author should be 2500 and that will cost 100 $/h.

I never had a coach after I learned the pieces move. Self-taught with chess books. And by playing.

I would pay $20, buy a book by a top grandmaster and study it for 12 months to gain +200 elo.

+200 rating from 200 h of study is likely, regardless of with a book or with a coach
A book by Kasparov or Kramnik costs $20 and will need 200 h of study
200 h of private coaching by Kasparov or Kramnik costs 200 h * 200 $/h = $ 40,000

I think you're focusing on the arbitrary number of "200" too much. Specifics are what really matters. What is the book about? Is it something that addresses specific issues with one's game, is it irrelevant, is it too broad? Also, 200 ELO from a book is very unlikely unless the player is low rated before reading the book. I'm talking maybe 1500 or lower. You need interaction, discussion, guidance by to real people to reach a higher level.

Annotated grandmaster games are the backbone of any chess book.
+200 elo does not come from 'reading' 1 book, it comes from 200 h of study with a good chess book.
Study of the book needs interaction with the ideas of the grandmaster author of the book to follow his guidance and the topics he discusses. A chess book is no novel to read.

Example of a good chess book: "Zürich 1953" - Bronstein. This book has made countless players progress, even to grandmaster.
