10 Days for Basic Opening Setup Prep enough?

Sort:

I have a tournament in 10 days and I want to prep a Basic setups against Caro, French and Sicilian. Is it really Possible to do so If so what should be the ideal approach. I am thinking of playing variations which are slightly less popular to get an opening advantage against opponents around 100 or 200 higher rated than me. I have been Marcozy Bind against Sicilian and for French I like playing advanced with Nd2 and Bd3 ideas. against Caro Its advanced variations. Any tips and Ideas will be highly appreciated.

You may not be able to play the Marcozy Bind with c4 immediately against the move order 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 since you have to first defend your e-pawn. By far the most common move is 5. Nc3.

They will still know their openings better. Better to play YOUR lines and check if something is wrong with them.

5.f3 and 5.Bd3 are both quite playable, and may well end up to a Maroczy structure.

5.f3 is more or less well-known, but 5.Bd3 is rare and rather undervalued.

To the O.P: No, the time is not enough to do any sort-of-useful preparation. Just play what you know, most games are decided in the middlegame by tactical means.

#4 yes, not much but yes I have played several tournaments but mostly against similar strength.

Also to mention Fun part is time format is Rapid ie 25+10 from move 1 so openings might help thats why i felt keeping some ideas mind and taking them to my territory might help to save time and be more comfortable.

Play what you know. And take your chances.
