500 Sicilian Players

Different times nowadays….

Miodrag's "Butcher the Sicilian" on Chessable is useful for refutations
Haha I just finished watching the 500 speed run, there was actually a lot of packed ideas in the e6 Sicilians; Taimanov and Kan; I am shocked in a good way.
I like Big Mio, thanks for the tip. He’s comes up with some high level and fresh stuff.
Im more about the basics and ABCs lol…

@d4iscrazy Looks good https://www.chess.com/openings/Sicilian-Defense-Taimanov-Variation

Taimanov is kinda easy for black; just don't blunder the b5 sac and know ur theory and ur chill
I don’t know my theory, explains why I am watching a 500 speed run haha I’ll enter the Taimanov if I can hit the queen with tempo.
I switched over to e6 Sicilians from d6 this year because I was running into anti-Sicilians more regularly; the likes of the Bowdler Attack, Alapin, Smith Morra and Grand Prix at the 1800-2000 player bracket is a remarkable experience. My last club tournament win went Alapin and Smith Morra in the final rounds.
Secondly, I had to dumb down my game for rapid play because I was suffering from “paralysis by analysis” and flagging. 90/30 is a different story when you have time to think, see deep calculations and enjoy complex positions.
The switch to e6 has been successful is all that matters.

yes, beginners are playing the Sicilian Defense more and more. And I really don't understand it. Even though I have 900 I'm trying to learn Sicilian. But I use a notebook and write about each variant up to the 15th move and try to understand it. People, understand that it's better to play worse openings that are simpler and know them, than to not know the sicilian at all and play it to be "fashionable". If you want to play the sicilian, go: 1. Understand. 2. Find the best variant for you 3. Learn the most important variants from a minimum of 10 moves. But it's only my opinion.

Well, I can see the Sicilian being played by beginners now.

It can be tricky for beginners, for sure.
But its popularity is nothing new ... The Sicilian has been popular among amateur players ever since the days of Fischer (and then later: Kasparov).

I blame them for the anti-Sicilians and London…
