Kind of like how he claims the Alapin wins by force, but he has a large negative score in the mainline.

 I score 60% wins 32% loss and 8% draw against the 2. d5 mainline , and I score 51 % win 41 % loss and 8% draw against the other mainline 2. Nf6.

Those are both excellent positive numbers

Based on the dominant play of Sveshnikovn in this line. As best I can tell he has never lost a game playing this line

What about failing to win?

I’m not sure. It’s possible someone has drawn him in this line

Well if you go 6 moves deep and ignore all the lines where I have a winning record and only post the 2 lines where I have a slightly losing record than yeah. But that’s not a very honest approach now is it. I could make Magnus Carlsen and Garry Kasparov look bad if I analyzed their results that way

For those of you who have demonstrated skepticism of the Alapin in this thread it’stime for you to back up your talk.

51/100 slots for the Sicilian Alapin Open daily tournament I created  have been filled the rest will go quickly. You’ve all talked a big game now you have to back it up. It’s time to join and try to survive the Alapin.

You’re welcome to join the tournament and prove your credentials Bobby

Staples, sorry to break your shield, but Magnus Carlsen only played the alapin once (as black) in a tournament (in 2002). He won. Now what?

What about the possibility of Sveshnikov losing in games that you do not know about?

Are we considering a person or an opening? Does it make sense to claim a forced win for White if there are lines where White is not so successful?

Does it take tournament participation to demonstrate an ability to ask questions and record quotes?

No but I hope you’ll play. I think it’ll be much more fun if all the regular contributors to this thread joined the tournament

Staples - I suck. And calculating our game stats, for you, the probability of -

Winning - 99.9986654 %

Drawing - 00.0013344 %

Losing - 00.0000002 %

Avatar of staples13

That’s ok ChessSD67. On this thread we respect the opinion of all players regardless of rating.

So if you so desire you’re welcome to play the tournament and practice what we’ve learned.

There we go I see BobbyTalparov has joined!

Avatar of Carbon6

I have too, but WE NEED IT TO START.

Avatar of Carbon6

So ca you start it or do I have to wait for the 45 people that haven't joined yet. Plus, for all the people who say "the main reason you win is that people don't EXPECT the Alapin" and "Its drawn/lost if someone PREPARE FOR IT", they can prove themselves by, you guessed it, preparing for the Alapin

Avatar of staples13

Nice glad you joined. Yes we’re at 56/100 and the tournament will automatically start when we get 100 players. It’ll go pretty quick. It Should start tomorrow or Tuesday I would think.

Yep the Alapin won’t be catching anyone off guard this tournament so no one can use that as an excuse

Avatar of Carbon6

BTW is Alapin pronounced like ala-PINE, or ala-pin, and where do you put the stress on the word

Avatar of staples13

I’m pretty sure it’s Ala-pin. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong

You've been corrected on numerous occasions on several points. It doesn't make any difference.

Whatever believe what you want. You’re entitled to your opinion. I don’t feel the need to continue to defend myself against these nonsensical attacks.
