I'm back from my vacation. Now I have time to discuss about the King's Gambit Accepted: Modern Defense". I'll be going over 1 line Today and another on Friday. I'll be going over the main line first. Let's get started.
After 3...d5, this move is supposed to give both players a good game. Black sacrifices a pawn to gain rapid development. White will always take the pawn 4.exd5. Black will put more pressure on the pawn and gain some development 4...Nf6. This line is called the "King's Gambit Accepted: Modern, Abbazia Defense".
There are 2 main options for white: 5.Bc4 or 5.Bb5+. Miscellaneous: 5.Nc3 and 5.c4.
Today we will go over the move c4. It's the least popular move. With 5.c4, white wants to hold on to the pawn on d5, but doing this will cause white some weaknesses in the position. Black will play 5...c6 to challenge the d5 pawn. White should not take the pawn, because if white does take the pawn, it gives black some development and gives black a tremendous attack. So white should play 6.d4 to can some control in the center. Black has no center pawns, so this is a logical plan. Black will play 6...Bb4+ which helps back develop, and white will develop the knight to c3 7.Nc3. In this position, black is slightly better. They have a lot of ideas to make.
Black can either castle or take the d5 pawn. Black has a better position.
