Aggressive Response to 4...Nf6 in the Scotch

Yeah, black is better.

The_Gavinator

Except for the fact he's not. Looks like the Waite-Harrison Attack came back to be great after all, as a part in the mainline Parham!

c6

very scary.
I'm done tracking this thread.

Rubidium

Didn't you want to castle, GM?

c6 is great: the pin on the knight means nothing, there's practically no attack for white, and black has more center control.

It was good for laughs for a while... but I guess I'll stop tracking also.

The_Gavinator

c6 just hangs a pawn... How are you all so dumb?

The_Gavinator

How would you respond to Bxd5..?

The_Gavinator

And now black has 1 piece developed, and weak central pawns, while white has 4 pieces developed, and a solid position Laughing

The position is =+.  You are simply wrong.  You will always be a 1300 player because you don't even know how to learn to play chess.  Do you know that I was never a 1300 player?  My first USCF rating was 1400-something...

My first USCF rating was 694 about 5 months ago and even I can say that this position is =+ if not -+. Guess thats why my rating's now higher than gavinators.

Black is totally fine after  13. O-O a6 14. Nbc3  Be6 or 13. Nec3 d4 14. Bxf6 Qxf6.

Yeah that bishop on g7 that can move to 1 legal square is sure doing a lot...

shepi13

And if black can achieve e4 it can move to about 10 squares. I think white would be lost even if e4 was a pawn sacrifice, similar to the one seen in Anand-Gelfand (which, of course, wasn't a parham, but rather a grunfeld, my opening. Guess my openings are played in WC matches, but you brag that the parham was played once by Naka, for fun.)

sorry, but are you sure you don't need to review the rules, GM?

The_Gavinator

Ok, it can move to two squares, and 1 hangs a bishop, I was assuming you all weren't stupid, but I guess that I was mistaken.

CHCL

There is nothing good about the Parham whatever way you look at it...

  1. Tactics =+ Black is the one with all the tactics
  2. Positional Desirability -+ Much better for Black
  3. General Principles -+ Moving the Queen violates this
  4. Problem pieces -+ White's pieces are misplaced

Ok, now we finally have come around to my point, I've been saving this one up for weeks. We have gone through over 100 pages of posts, 30 here, 40 on the old Parham, 30 on another parham attack thread, and a few other threads too.

I'm gonna say on average there are 20-25 posts per page, so that's over 2000 comments. It's taken 2000 comments to find just 1 line where black isn't crushed. In a real life game, you don't get 2000 tries to get it right. You get ONE TRY.

This is why this opening is good, it has taken you all THOUSANDS of tries to not get smoked by this opening, I would say an opening that it takes you 2000 tries to not get mowed over is pretty damn good, wouldn't you?

The_Gavinator

And on top of it, you still aren't succesful:

The_Gavinator

Would you like to enlighten me on the holes above?
