In my opinion, the Alekhine’s is a bit dubious and rejects principles, but if you want to play it, it’s up to you. Just make sure you know how to play with a lack of space.

Sea_TurtIe

alekhine is good

black fights for the win here, very sharp and tactical

My favorite variation to play

Alekhine is pretty trash (no disrespect)

MrStrandMan

Iceyww, there is zero benefit in discarding an opening and saying it is trash. Also, there are other lines to be used and not just the line you showed. Also, playing Nf6 can lead to many openings and white does not have to move e5. I just don't see what your point is by taking the time to say it's trash and showing a long opening line to 13 moves, where did you study these move orders from? I don't understand why you went with the line without the kingside fianchetto as black.

To foil your opening prep further. I'd probably just do this.

MrStrandMan

To further backup that I know a little about what I'm talking about. I have played the Alekhine 311 times on Lichess with a 54% win rate at 1700 level.

bro I’d just play d4, develop, castle, and play a game where I am better

MrStrandMan

Iceyww, you got lost in what I was saying. My main argument is why are you discarding any opening idea as trash instead of using it as a tool. For example, in bullet, Alekhine is great because many players don't expect it and leave their e4 pawn hanging. Also, you can't just say an opening is trash if you don't even understand the opening or have experience playing it.

I’ve played against the alekhine but I’m 900 and you are 1700. I win a lot of the time against it AT MY LEVEL (btw I play on lichess)

ADDITIONALLY:

I made up that line myself idk if that’s theory lol

MrStrandMan

Don't be so quick to dismiss it. You should try playing it as black and look at it as a challenge. You might end up liking it later on too. I personally don't like playing the Lemming, the Borg and Duras, but I still wouldn't dismiss them entirely that I would never study them or play them once and a while just for fun.

Ok

mrOpenRuy

im an alekhine pro and tearing down whites center allways makes you feel good

strangely nobody beloww 1800 can hold that big of a center

MrStrandMan

Anyone else have this happen? I've had this happen numerous times. My opponents start complaining about how boring the Alekhine is and how they don't want to play it, but then follow up with 2. e5 instead of going 2. Nc3. I've had this happen so many times and then they never explain why they decided to continue with the Alekhine and not transpose into another opening. And like I'd be totally fine going another direction with the opening but they are the ones that are forcing the moves as white. It's funny because they never have a response and then lose.

@iceww

you dumb

i know the ins and outs of the alekhine and your ¨example¨ is NOT how the alekhine is played so you should keep what you say to yourself as you obviously dont know what youre talking about

Yk if you would read the forum then you would know that I made that up myself. It’s probably not actual theory.
