I want to see some King's Gambit all up inside this tourny. I want it to be like warm butter sliding on a hot bisquit. Carlsen plays King's Gambit, and Anand accepts and holds onto the pawn.

Ruy Lopez Worrall Attack.

Why?

1. Carlsen is White and he tends to play Ruy Lopez.

2. The opening is theoretically sound. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessopening?eco=c86

3. The opening is offbeat and somewhat unexpected, though it is not too hard to learn.

4. Of course, Anand could avoid this in a number of ways, such as by playing the Sicilian.  However, Anand would probably want to draw early on, and possibly entering an Open Sicilian is not a typical way for an easy draw.

Looks like it would be an opening that matches Carlsen's style. :)

My second guess would be the Rossolimo/Moscow Sicilian.

Anand also knows the line quite well, and is not exactly unexpected. Anand worked with Short to prepare him for Short's semi-final candidates match with Karpov in 1992, during which they reviewed this line extensively. He also played some nice games with it (for example, Anand-Kamsky, Moscow 1992), and probably can recall most of his preparation. Unless Carlsen can refute Anands preparation (which I doubt he can in the Worrall), then I doubt he will play it.

I would expect Nf3 d5 g3 g6 Bg2 Bg7 d4 c6 0-0 Nf6 b3 0-0 Bb2 Bf5 c4 Nbd7 Nc3 dxc4 bxc4.

Anand has black in game 1.

Well then, I guess the OP really f'ed up that one.  According to the title, Carlsen is listed as Black.  I retract my Sveshnikov prediction and say 4.d3 against the Berlin.

If I am not mistaken, Berlin Defense is 1. e4 e5. 2 Bc4 Nf6. Nice, mate. Seldom see it in play.

Berlin defense is 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6.

Carlsen in this position almost always plays 4. d3, instead of entering the famous ending arising after 4. 0-0 Nxe4 5. d4 Nd6 6. Bxc6 dxc6 7. dxe5 Nf5 8. Qxd8+ Kxd8, which at high levels is quite difficult for white to win.

The winners are who voted 1. Nf3. There are few of them. I will go thru it after the game. Thanks for voting.

MrDamonSmith

I'm gonna guess nf3 d5 g3 g6 bg2 bg7 d4 c6 maybe. Something along those lines.
