The Evans gambit
The Evans gambit is a true chess link between the romantic past and the computerized present. This sharp opening was played by the biggest stars chess ever produced: Morphy, Fischer, and Kasparov. This fact alone should tell you that the Evans Gambit is a perfectly sound opening.
In this section, we will study 5 differents variations of this opening. They will be : the Waller attack, the "compremise" var., the normal variation with 6. 0-0,
the 8. ce-Be7 var, the normal variation with 6.d4-exd4 and finally the Cordel variation.

2- "Compremise" variation section:
The next famous game shows a danger of the Black strategy that can be described by the motto "take whatever can be taken!".
3- Normal variation with 7.0-0-Nf6 section:
In the next amusing game (played by the first World Champion Steinitz), Black's King was involved in a long trip. As you can guess, the result of the journey wasn't too happy for Black.
4. 8.c3-Be7 variation section:
5...Be7 is considered Black's safest option according to today's opening theory.
Yet, even here one mistake can lead to a disaster as Fischer aptly demonstrates in the next game.
6. Cordel variation section:
Quite an interesting battle in the opening. The beauty of this opening is that most of the games played in this opening are decided right there. If black manages to defend well, he keeps his extra material and emerges from the opening better; but if white continues to launch deadly mating threats on the black king, then he manages to win the game. Either way the game is pretty much decided out of the opening.
This game is about when the Champion of the recently concluded National Open in Vegas, Timur Gareev had to face the wrath of this opening. Fortunately for him, he sailed out of it pretty smoothly.
