best d4 response for ~1300 rating

I use the London system for white and the caro kann for black against e4. This has gotten me up 200 rating points in like 2 months. I’ve gathered that these are good for my rating because there’s not too much to remember and I will slowly start adding things if I continue to progress. But I still need an approach to d4 because I’m just aborting d4 games at this point. Something for my level that’s not too complicated would be great (I had to abandon the Sicilian and guicco piano for now). Also maybe a good plan for those hyper modern early fienchettio openings (I just get the double pawn center and wing it) or anything else the London and caro kann doesn’t combat would be great but mainly a d4 response would be great if y’all are interested.

I play the old Benoni since there is not a lot of transpositions at my level.

Why nobody wants to play 1.e4 e5 and 1.d4 d5?

Fearful symmetry.

U are right. Nobody should play chess since position at beginning is symmetric and quite boring/fearful.

Fortunately, we have the asymmetrical Fischer variant. tongue.png

Queen's Gambit Accepted and develop pieces.

If you play the London as white and the Caro-Kann as black, then the Slav Defence 1 d4 d5 2 c4 c6 for black is a nice complement in the same spirit.

Play the Queen's Gambit Declined. It is the simplest of the good openings and you will learn the basic ideas for all the d4 openings like the Nimzoindian, the QGA, the Semislav, the QID.

Well, you're never going to learn how to play against d4 if you keep aborting against d4 players.

You are abandoning games just because you are out of book early in the game? This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen on this forum, and the bar is pretty high. Just play the game, dude, it does not matter if you know a couple of book moves more or less.

is d4 really that scary that you have to abort every game that starts with that move? lmao

If you ever go out into the real world and play otb, you won't be able to just quit every time somebody plays an opening you don't like. If you are interested in becoming a stronger player you will have to learn more about the game, including how to evaluate unfamiliar positions. So just play 1.....d5 and go into the queen's gambit. Perhaps the Slav would be a good choice, or perhaps the Tarrasch variation as black starts counter-attacking immediately. And if your opponent plays your own favorite London system, just use the reply that gives you the most trouble as white.

I like to play against 1.d4 but no one ever plays it. Why is that?

Probably because 1. e4 is much more common sub-1200 rating. 1. e4 is probably about the same as 1. d4 in it being just as solid, but I think many beginners are taught 1. e4 either because of Fischer's "best by test" or because it usually allows for swift development and piece activity. 1. d4 can of course have easy piece development too, but the first few moves tend to be closed positions more often and I think beginning players tend to enjoy open positions (even if 1. e4 and 1. d4 can both be open or closed).
