Best opener?


There is no "best" one, as that is just an opinion.

Try Queen's Pawn: Levistky Attack. (Probably spelt that wrong.)

But for an opener I always use my trusty swiss army knife. No bottle has resisted successfully so far.

According to the most recent supercomputer analysis, 1. c4 is the "best opening move". Next is 1. Nf3, then 1. d4, then finally 1. e4. However, the current supercomputer analysis for why 1. c4 is the best opening is this (which also shows the best variation against the most popular openings as both colors):

As for 'the best' opening, for humans it depends totally on preference and style.
Positionally one might argue the Ruy Lopez or Italian are best, but if you like attacking chess there's nothing wrong with the King's Gambit or London System.
