What is the best opening against e4  for the players who play d4 or prefer Queen's Pawn Openings?

kushak08

for e4 c5 is best

kushak08

e4 is unusual against Sicilian

If you enjoy closed games, which most d4 players do,  I think French defense might be your best choice.

I am no d4 player, but maybe the scandanavian, if they don't tak

This kind of opening is also fun for Alekhine players like me! (for white) but yeah
e!

There is no best opening. You have to choose what you like. You have the freedom to develop your own opening systems and change them at will. Just play the ones that you enjoy and fit your playing style.

This is probably the best line that exists against 1. e4, and is so far unknown to most players. It is likely to be discovered within the next few years, and will then dominate top-level play:

On the second move, black has already placed his rook on an aggressive location that is sure to come in handy when he goes for a queenside attack. He has also abstained from placing any pawns in the center, keeping his options open, whereas white has already foolishly revealed his plan to control the center with his pawns. This is overall an extremely good position for black. Though the computer says otherwise, I would evaluate this position as -0.8 (because computers cannot be trusted, obviously -- how do we know they are not just programmed to make this opening look poor and thus hide it from humans, preventing them from truly mastering chess?). You can expect at least a 70% win rate with this opening against other players of the same level.

Speaking as a d4 player rated roughly 2100 over the board, I play 3 defenses against 1.e4, and my "primary" one?  The French, as mentioned above!  The others?  Petroff and Caro-Kann.

Really you are convinced black can hold on in the advanced variation now? happy.png Maybe with the a6 idea

Spock says e5.

If you are talking about French, either you are trolling, or being ridiculous.

No, he is not trolling.  I went through a stretch of 23 straight OTB games that featured myself on the White side of the French Advance without a loss (draws, yes, but not losses), and I had mentioned on other posts on the French that the ideas that came about in 2006 and 2007 in the Advance caused me to not play the French for about 7 to 8 years.  Then in early 2015 or so, I started playing the 5...a6 line of the French advance with good results.  It may not be Black's best line, but it is getting White out of the comfort lines of 4...Nc6 5.Nf3 Qb6 6.a3 or 5...Bd7 6.Be2.

I even wrote an article online about the line 3...c5 4.c3 Bd7 5.Nf3 a6.

I still preach today what I preached 2 to 3 years ago.  White has two ways to possibly get an advantage in the French.  3.Nc3 or 3.e5.  The rest of White's options are a complete joke and Black gets complete equality (no refutation, but also zero advantage for White).

This could be of help: http://chesswinning.com/10-best-chess-openings/

I am terribly sceptical on the ordering mocl125.  I believe KID should be placed above London System and so is French above Carro-kan.

good question. you would be enjoying playing c5.better question would be how would i play against c4. the fact is that most players are confident with e4 c5 nf6 bc4 bowlder attack without knowing bowlder attack and canal attack theory. but if white plays 1.c4 you would get uncomfortable position playing as black if you do not understand caro-kann defensive theory or qid formation theory it would be confusing reply to c4 as a black. but still you would be comfortable to play against c4 as u are d4 player and white throws c4 some point of time unless bothside going for endgame.

What about French Defence?  I believe in that case pawn structure is quite similar to QGD...

Actually I love to play Sicilian Dragon but not prefers KID

Icecream4crow

For d4 players?=Why not d4?
