I believe scholastic openings are pretty good even for GM's. Most players prefer e4 or d4, but my personal preferance is 1.Nf3 2.d4
Best Opening
I don't think there is one opening that is best. Both e4 and d4 make a direct claim on the centre. They often lead to different styles of game and so d4 may suit (and be preferred by) one player and vice versa for e4. But Nf3 and c4 are also strong moves and can be seen at the top level.
The scotch is blatantly the best opening.
