best way to play against queens gambit.

Does anyone know the pros and cons of this line? It avoids the typical exchange variation with Bg5 but the bishop just comes to f4 instead. It just seems like quite a nice line but I can't find much information about it.

Kasparov's books on particularly his matches against Karpov has lots of info. The main point is to avoid 3...Nf6 4pxp pxp 5Bg5. Whether this form of exchange variation is better for white than 3...Be7 4pxp pxp 5Bf4 isn't that obvious. Whether white club players have the technique to convert from either one, equally so.

My favorite are the Albin (2...e5) or the Baltic Defence (2...Bf5)

It depends on your style of play. I used to play Tchigorin Defense but moved on to the King's Indian Defense.

This dude is from North Korea... how?

I play the QGA and have good results . I play the QGA because I feel ,as a gambit player when white, I should accept all gambits as black.

I play the QGD Orthodox... If it was Capablanca's and Alekhines go to defense for decades, then it's good enough for me. The stats are as good as most defenses.

It has some of everything in it, lines that take on a Hedgehog type defense. Lines that mimic the Tatakower, lines that mimic the QGA, Lines that <imic the Tarrasch... etc These days very few know the theory. Of course mastery over the Carlsbad pawn structure is a must.

Often I never reach the base position.... White strays, letting me equalize easily... If I do get here, White again usually doesn't know the theory and will try to slip out of the main line... There are a plethora of defensive and counter attacking ideas here.

I play it... It's called Alatortsev Varaition..

Avoids the Flexible Exchange Variation.

Can get tactical...

Better than most think. Check out GM Geller's games. As Black... he played the Alatortsev very well. Most of the time 3...Be7 will just transpose back into a main line.

Here is line you will have to deal with playing 3...Be7 Not sure what the variation is called

Against the QGD, you can learn the Slav defense and this helps solve your weakness on c6. While some lines have enormous amounts of theory, it is very solid. You also could learn the Tarrasch Defense which lets you learn how to handle IQP positions. Playing d6 allows the Pirc Defense while g6 allows for the Modern Defense and KID though the move order here can be tricky since Black has not played 1...Nf6. Playing to counterattack, f5 will give you the Dutch and you can even play ideas like b6 for the Queen's Indian and bogo-indian, e5 the Englund Gambit and even the Budapest Defense is possible after the 3rd move. c5 invites the Benoni and Benko

There is a simple solution. Avoid it all together! There is no obligation to playing 1...d5.

Amen. Throw it on them like a 600 pound woman giving a lap dance at a bachelor party, I say. Hold up; wrong forum. And we're walking away now......
