After 9...d6 (glad you pointed that i forgot to mention this!) white just develops normaly and black will soon be forced to give up his bishop for a knight, and without winning a tempo (white playing a3).

The Budapest is playable at the GM level as a surprise weapon, not really much more. There are much better and more dynamic openings.
As you can (hopefully) tell I like playing gambits this is the main line of the Budapest atactually ends at 12.Qd2 but thta is a lot like black plays and white loses all of his c & a pawns
