I play the Fried Liver on the queenside sometimes.

I play 7...Nc4+.  I win!

Gotta love these bullsh*t posts like this one I just replied to.

This to go along with what the OP posted about how a bunch of Morons think the Fried Liver is 4.Ng5, it just goes to prove the difference between lower rated players that ask questions and those that make moronic statements about how they know so much about openings and propose some new line that no GM every plays and claims he's winning when people like pfren or I can bust it in a single move.

Those that ask questions - and better yet, those that ask questions in the sense of "Is this the right move", where it goes to show that they are at least thinking, even if they may be making a huge mistake, they are still trying to learn.

Those that try to show off and re-invent the wheel, thinking their brand new garbage line is so great - these are the ones that really end up revealing how stupid they are when all is said and done!

I played bullet yesterday (what a waste of half an hour) and all three times I had Black, my opponents hoped I'd go in for the Fried Liver after 4.Ng5, but of course I played 4...d5 5.exd5 Na5.  I guess this is why there are so many Fried Liver posts, it (anecdotally) seems to be the primary way most people open in bullet.

Apologies for trying to bring this thread back on track Tongue Out

Yuck!  Who wants Fried Liver of any variety anyway?  I make mince meat out of my opponents, not Fried Liver!

The following is the Fried Liver; anything else, including moves before the concluding move 6.Nxf7, such as merely 4.Ng5, are NOT the Fried Liver.

I'm posting this here as a sort of canonical answer -- feel free to point the misinformed to this post, so we can stop littering the openings forum.  Or maybe we need specialized openings forums: "The Fried Liver", "The French Exchange", and so forth

Yeah this fried liver attack and is quite good for white because after Kxf7 Qf3+ Ke6 black king is exposed in the center....

No, but I know one thing for sure.

As it turns out, the average age for reaching GM is just above 28. It is, however, skewed by "old" generation players and players from time before GM title was a thing. It was officially introduced in 1950 and some (old) players were awarded it at the time. It is intriguing to look at average age in different generations of players. And so:

  • For players born after 1945, the average is slightly above 26 years old.
  • For players born after 1970, the average is slightly above 23 years old.
  • For players born after 1975, the average is slightly above 22 years old.
  • For players born after 1980, the average is 21 years old.
  • For players born after 1985, the average is just shy of 20 years old.
  • For players born after 1990, the average is 18.5 years old.

Clearly, on average, people are becoming a GM faster nowadays!

In case it is of interest, the two countries "producing" GMs on average at lowest age are India and China - both at 21 years old. Countries with most GMs (all time) are Russia (by huge margin), Ukraine, Germany, USA and Hungary.
