Can White Force a Catalan?

Or can it only be reached following the following move order

1. d4, Nf6 2.c4, e6 3.g3

I was just wondering.

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.g3 works as well. Also often comes from 1.c4 or 1.Nf3, e.g. 1.c4 Nf6 2.g3 e6 3.Bg2 d5 4.d4.

Still doesn't mean white can force it, of course.

You can reach the Catalan in various ways and you do not need to force it! You have the Closed and Open Variations... It just depends on what black does and how you play the Catalan...
