Is castling really a necessary move, or it is an optional thing?

Once you and your opponent get beyond the very basic four move checkmate games, you will learn to make castling a priority.

Of course, every situation has to be judged on its own, and there are positions where castling is a mistake.

But in general, castling not only helps protect your king, it also helps you develop your rooks.

How is it possible to castle while passing through a check??????????
I had my queen attacking both sides of the opponent, then he made the queenside castling. How is it possible or there is a rule that i dont know?

Might be interesting to see how a strong computer program would do against a GM if the computer were not allowed to castle.

It's optional but, in most games, if you don't castle your opponent will be able to pin your pieces and otherwise more easily attack your exposed king.  But that's not always true: I won one of my last games without castling while my opponent did so. I did that because he was leaving himself open to a strong attack.
