At your level, it should be all about opening concepts. Forget about theory until you are 1800.
This is what you need to know right now:
1) Control the center
2) Develop minor pieces first before Rooks and Queen.
3) Get castled
4) Don't move a piece in the opening more than once unless it is attacked, like 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6, of course you will move the Bishop again, either 4.Ba4 or 4.Bxc6.
