I am looking to buy some books on some openings I'm trying to learn. Can anyone give me advice on the best books out there for these?

Here are the openings I'm trying to learn.

1. The Catalan

2. The King's Indian

3. The Slav

4. The Caro-Kann

5. The Reti

Which side are you looking to play each of these from?

If the first 3 are all as White, you have the 3-book series "Wojo's Weapons", which recommends the Catalan, 4.Qc2 variation of the Slav, and Fianchetto King's Indian.

Otherwise, there are other books that cover other variations from White's perspective.

If these are for Black, there are various repertoire books for Black that cover the Catalan, but if you are playing the Slav or King's Indian as Black, the Catalan should be a non-factor.

King's Indian as Black, best books are the 2-book series Attacking Chess: The King's Indian by David Vigorito.

Slav as Black?  There's a book on the Slav from 2008 by Everyman, don't know the author or exact title.  There's also the book by Lakdawala in the Move by Move series that started up in 2011.  It was the first one out in the Move by Move series, sometime in the summer of 2011, so still fairly recent.  Just watch out for the ...e5 move recommended in Game 16.  It overlooks a bust by White.  I think you have to play something like 16...Rfd8 there.

Caro-Kann?  Again, depends on which side:

White:  There's a book coming out on the Panov-Botvinnik Attack in the move by move series in a few months.

Black:  Grandmaster Repertoire 7 - The Caro-Kann or The Caro-Kann Move by Move.

Objective:  There's a book by Peter Wells (I think) from Gambit Publishing on the Caro-Kann that came out about 5 years ago.

Reti?  Again, depends.  Some QGD books for Black cover the Reti.  As White, there's a book by Everyman that's not very good in the Starting Out series.  There's also Marin's 3-book series in the Grandmaster Repertoire series (3, 4, and 5), and 4 predominatly covers the Reti, but it's not the complete Reti as the repertoire comes from playing 1.c4, and so lines like 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 d4 won't be covered as Black would have to play something like 1.c4 e6 2.g3 d5.

Hope this helps.
