Chess boxing

I have recently discovered a thing called chess boxing. I have not played it myself (and probably never will) but it seems like really funny concept (no offense). I can just picture two guys beating each other up and then playing a civilized game of chess. I can just see people that are mediocre at chess and mediocre at boxing brainstorming the idea. Here is an article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_boxing

This is a video I found on youtube about chess boxing:

It should be optional, particularly when you lose a game you definitely shouldn't have! I don't see it being approved by FIDE anytime soon though!

Then again, they did approve that silly rule where you lose a blitz game for taking your opponent's King, so you never know... ;)

I saw once both things happening at the same time.  An international arbiter was present.

Keep in mind that chessboxing has alternating rounds of chess and boxing. So e.g. 4min chess, 3min boxing, 4min chess, 3min boxing and so on. It is fast-paced and great fun to watch. The chess is played with a clock and a bout cant be longer than 11 rounds. It will either finish by checkmate or KO or time penalty on the chess. It might sound odd, but once people been to a live event they totally get it. Check this out: http://londonchessboxing.com

I think that in grandmaster level games if you actually checkmate your opponent you should be allowed to reach across the table and sock them right in the face. Would give added motivation to play for an absolute win.

"Checkmate biatch!!!!" *POW!*

(As an aside: I seem to recall reading an interview with Yasser Seirawan where he said one regret he had was never punching Garry Kasparov for his behavior at the board.)
