I have stabilized at the 1400-1450 range now and I've been facing difficulties in the openings. Can you suggest me some good openings for both sides in the range of 1400-1600 ?

Hi Thalia 🙂So much depend of your style of play!

I suggest: SICILIAN for black Defense

I like to play open game with e4 but then, you must be ready for a lot of counterplay. D4 is a lot easier to play but I am playing the SCOTCH as often as I can because the themes are very clear.

Wildekaart

White (e4e5): Vienna Gambit, Danish Gambit, Scotch Four Knights, Modern Petrov
White (e4other): Closed Sicilian, 3.Nc3 Sicilian, 3.Nc3 French, 3.Nc3 Caro-Kann (seriously love Nc3 as you can see)
White (d4): London System, 3.Nf3 QGA, Anti Nimzo
Black (e4e5): Elephant Gambit, Stafford Gambit, 3..Nf6 against either 3.Bc4 or 3.Bb5, Falkbeer Countergambit
Black (e4other): Nimzowitsch (prepare to transpose tho), Nimzowitsch Sicilian, Classical Sicilian, Modern Scandi
Black (d4): QGD, Benoni, Budapest, Nimzo w/ 4..c5.

Here's a bunch of openings. You're at a level that I expect you already have experimented with a variety of openings, but if you've sticked with a selection of openings so far you could probably stick to them anyway. I don't know as much about d4 as I know about e4 so that's why I shared more e4 openings, and anything besides those two is something I would not recommend at your level for most players have started at e4/d4 and are still using either of the two. These are openings which have an above average success rate for the sides you play them with, also since this is my suggestion they are mostly sharp but comprehensible openings.

Also, in case you are wondering what your success rate is with the openings you've already played, openingtree is a great website to check that (at least, that's what Eric Rosen said)
